Fire and Life Safety Manager

Gyron is a rapidly growing part of NTT, the world’s largest telecommunications service provider, and provides highly resilient and energy efficient Data Centres services, supporting business critical IT applications for customers from five state-of-the-art datacentre facilities in the South East of England. 

About the Role:

Reporting to the Associate Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for ensuring all of Gyron’s fire and life safety systems are operating correctly within their design and are optimised to ensure highest levels of effectiveness and reliability. You will ensure all best practises and standards are delivered and maintained, and work with the Facilities Management department to ensure any design issues are quickly resolved to prevent operational impact. You will use your excellent organisational skills to ensure services are delivered to a high standard.

 

Specifically, you will:

  •       Provide 2nd/3rd level escalation for fire and life safety systems issues
  •       Provide SOP/EOP development including signing off any fire and life safety systems SOP/EOP drafts
  •       Assist with the commissioning of existing upgrades and new builds; leading fire and life safety system elements where required
  •       Organise training for CFM engineers/supervisors on any fire and life safety systems adhoc or planned
  •       Provide mitigation to remove (where possible) majority of “Human Error” aspects from all fire and life safety systems operations, whether it be a physical optimisation to equipment, robust technical training, or clear procedure documentation
  •       Provide technical input on all fire and life safety systems works and projects
  •       Optimise maintenance offerings to ensure all manufacturers guidelines and best practises are followed
  •       Ensure technical excellence on all fire and life safety systems and ensure all engineering best practices are being followed
  •       Ensure all statutory testing is completed in conjunction with CFM in line with current British standards and Business requirements 
  •       Attend any necessary Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT)
  •       Organise and witness fire and life safety systems Site Acceptance Tests (SAT)
  •       Collaborate with Technical Operations Department on all Integrated Systems Testing (IST)
  •       Create/collaborate on commissioning test scripts for fire and life safety systems elements‎ for FATs, SATS and IST
  •      Take ownership of any key fire and life safety systems issues and push progression, and as part of this, ensure ticketing system is up to date
  •       Assist the Site Operations teams to ensure compliance with ISO Security, Fire and Health & Safety related policies and procedures
  •       Assist with Health & Safety compliance
  •       Any other duties relevant to the position and the running of the company

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Experience with fire and life safety systems with excellent attention to detail
  • Good understanding of all building design standards for fire detection, suppression and regulations relating to physical fire protection
  • Technical understanding of Kentec, Advanced & Xtralis detection systems (Manufacturer trained & Accredited)  
  • Technical understanding of all extinguishing systems (Gaseous & Water based) including requirements and British & European standards
  • Working understanding or “The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005” 
  • Good numerical and literacy skills and high levels of computer literacy
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise
  • Good analytical/ problem solving skills
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels with good relationship building skills
  • Self-motivated and keen to develop, with a willingness and desire to learn
  • Keen to share knowledge with colleagues
  • To possess initiative with an inquisitive nature, unafraid to ask appropriate questions
  • There will be a requirement to work occasional un-social hours to meet the requirements of the business
  • To possess a full driving licence valid for use in the UK
  • To undergo full security checks to BS7858:2012
