Critical Facilities Maintenance Manager

Gyron is a rapidly growing part of NTT, the world’s largest telecommunications service provider, and provides highly resilient and energy efficient datacentre services, supporting business critical IT applications for some of the world’s biggest and most innovative Cloud Hosting and SaaS Service providers, from five state-of-the-art datacentre facilities in the South East of England. It is also currently in the process of integrating its business operations with its sister company e-shelter GmBh, to form part of a pan-European Data Centre platform able to capture the market opportunity for continued business growth in this sector.

About the role:

You will provide engineering services and guidance on property matters affecting the on-going management and development of the critical and non-critical infrastructure within the Datacentre facilities. As part of this you will be instrumental in the planning, management and implementation of the delivery of FM services to ensure operational performance is maintained at all times, to the highest possible standards. Based at our Dagenham facility you will ultimately be responsible for the 24/7 facility maintenance engineers and administrative support staff at that site.

Specifically you will:

  •       Be responsible for the upkeep of the datacentre facility and maintenance of the critical infrastructure
  •       Lead the 24/7 facilities engineering team 
  •     Work closely with your peers to ensure consistent standards are implemented and adhered to across all facilities 
  •       Ensure all Safe Systems of Work processes are being followed
  •       Manage the sites engineering training matrix and be responsible for its implementation
  •     Ensure staff are trained and follow the site’s Emergency Operations Procedures and Standard operations Procedures
  •    Take the lead role in Event and Incident handling and reporting processes and assist with subsequent investigations to establish root causes
  •       Promote Critical Engineering best practises throughout your team
  •       Maintain high standards of Health and Safety.
  •       Ensure that all reactive and proactive maintenance is performed in accordance with SFG20 or manufacturers recommendations
  •       Attend client meetings where required
  •       Be the Escalation for technical and non-technical issues for the shift engineering team
  •       Collate and review method statements and risk assessments, and highlight any risks that are apparent from a Health and Safety and business continuity perspective
  •       Ensure maintenance is carried out as per maintenance schedules in conjunction with Facilities Coordinator
  •       Review and ensure maintenance and operational activities are executed in a safe and suitable manner
  •       Maintain a proactive involvement in the on-going technical evaluation of all plant and equipment, and provide suggestions of improvements where appropriate
  •       Act as an Authorised Person for the SSOW for both Low Voltage and High Voltage systems
  •       Participate in managing demand response events
  •       Work closely with your peers to ensure operational efficiency and continuity across all locations
  •       Monitor and maintain equipment performance and records to ensure correct operation of the critical services of the Datacentres
  •       Maintain relationships with suppliers and contractors
  •      Work with the Compliance department to ensure your team complies with ISO standards (9001, 14001, 27001), Fire and Health & Safety related policies and procedures
  •       Maintain staff rotas, which will include ensuring cover is in place for holidays and sickness
  •       Participate in the on-call rota for out of hours incidents
  •    Work closely with the Datacentre Manager and take responsibility for ensuring services are delivered in accordance with best practice processes and procedures
  •       Support the Data Centre Managers in monitoring managing Monthly Expenditure
  •       Review Capital Expenditure and advise on requirements for future capital expenditure for budget planning.

Required experience

  •       Experience in facilities, operations or engineering; in a datacentre critical environment
  •       Experience in delivering a maintenance service
  •       Electrical HV & LV authorised person with recent switching experience
  •       Proven track record of managing a team
  •       Working knowledge and understanding of engineering operations within Business Critical Environments
  •       Creating and developing SOP and EOP documentation and other related/similar processes
  •       Excellent attention to detail
  •       A flexible but non comprising approach to service delivery
  •       Demonstrable experience in dealing with incident management and post-incident reporting

Essential qualifications relevant to the role:

  •       HND or similar in relevant area
  •       IOSH – Managing Safely

  • To possess a clean driving license valid for use in the UK - this role will require the first 3-6 months to be based at our Hemel Hempstead site.
