Fire and Life Safety Engineer

About the role:

Gyron is a rapidly growing part of NTT, the world’s largest telecommunications service provider, and provides highly resilient and energy efficient datacentre services, supporting business critical IT applications for some of the world’s biggest and most innovative Cloud Hosting and SaaS Service providers, from five state-of-the-art datacentre facilities in the South East of England.

You will be working within the Fire Safety Technical team ensuring all of Gyron’s fire and life safety systems are operating correctly within their design and are optimised to ensure highest levels of effectiveness and reliability. You will ensure all best practises and standards are delivered and maintained, and work with the Facilities Management department to ensure any design issues are quickly resolved to prevent operational impact. You will use your excellent organisational skills to ensure services are delivered to a high standard. 

Specifically, you will:

  •       Provide support via the FLS manager for any 2nd / 3rd Level escalation for fire and life safety systems issues
  •       Provide technical input for SOP/EOP development including sign-off of any fire and life safety systems
  •       Assist with the commissioning and hand over and sign-off of existing upgrades and new builds; on the fire and life safety system elements where required
  •       Provide training for CFM engineers/supervisors on any fire and life safety systems adhoc or planned
  •       Provide mitigation to remove (where possible) majority of “Human Error” aspects from all fire and life safety systems operations, whether it be a physical optimisation to equipment, robust technical training, or clear procedure documentation
  •       Provide technical input & assistance to FLS manager on all fire and life safety systems works and projects
  •       Optimise maintenance offerings to ensure all manufacturers guidelines and best practises are followed
  •       Ensure technical excellence on all fire and life safety systems and ensure all engineering best practices are being followed
  •       Ensure all statutory testing is completed in conjunction with CFM in line with current British standards and Business requirements
  •       Attend any necessary Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT)
  •       Attend and witness fire and life safety systems Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) as requested by FLS manager
  •       Collaborate with Technical Operations Department on all Integrated Systems Testing (IST) as directed by FLS manager
  •       Create/collaborate as directed by FLS Manager for commissioning test scripts for fire and life safety systems elements‎ for FATs, SATS and IST
  •       Assist with of any key fire and life safety systems issues and push progression, and as part of this, ensure ticketing system is up to date
  •       Assist the Technical Operations Department to ensure compliance with ISO Security, Fire and Health & Safety related policies and procedures
  •       Assist with Health & Safety compliance

any other duties relevant to the position and the running of the company and or requested by the Fire & Life Safety manager

About you:

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Extensive experience with fire and life safety systems is required with excellent attention to detail
  • Good understanding of all building design standards & regulations relating to physical fire protection
  • Technical understanding of Kentec & Xtralis and Advanced Electronics detection systems
  • Technical understanding of all extinguishing systems (Gaseous & Water based) including requirements and British standards
  • Working understanding or “The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005” 
  • Good numerical and literacy skills and high levels of computer literacy
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise
  • Good analytical/ problem solving skills
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels with good relationship building skills
  • Self-motivated and keen to develop, with a willingness and desire to learn
  • Keen to share knowledge with colleagues
  • To possess initiative with an inquisitive nature, unafraid to ask appropriate questions
  • To hold a driving license valid for use in the UK
  • To undergo full security checks to BS7858:2012
