Critical Facilities Maintenance Day Engineer

About the role:


The Critical Facility Maintenance Day Engineer role is a key appointment for the Campus Data Centre working directly for the site management team and providing weekday cover for the site, supporting a continental shift Engineering shift team.

The day-to-day requirements of the role include working as part of a team in the maintenance and delivery of Facility Management (FM) services to Gyron’s Data Centres, ensuring operational performance and efficiency is maintained at all times to the highest possible standards.  Provide engineering support and guidance in general on property matters affecting the on-going management and development of Gyron’s Data Centres.

As part of the critical FM team working 8.5hr day shift you will have the following duties:

  • Working as part of a team, providing efficient and effective customer centric service.
  • Maintaining a high standard of workmanship, including planned preventative and reactive maintenance.
  • Conducting routine plant inspections / site checks and monitoring the Building Management System, responding to issues and alarms found while ensuring that appropriate action is taken
  • Perform planned preventative maintenance, statutory compliance tasks and reactive works investigations/repairs on, but not limited to, the Low & High Voltage electrical and Mechanical systems on site (dependent on skills development pathway and LV AP status being achieved).
  • Providing first response to all M&E infrastructure on site, escalating as necessary and engaging with third party contractors where specialist knowledge/skills are required.
  • To assist in the control of work permits and take responsibility for client side supervision and management of all sub-contractors working within the agreed limitations.
  • Working as directed to ensure timely completion of PPM’s and reactive work to SLA.
  • Ensure that all works are carried out, adhering to the  Safe System of Work with agreed changes management, risk assessment and method operating procedures. All works to be to industry best practice and meeting statutory compliance as required.
  • Supporting the Shift Engineering Teams to ensure correct operation of the critical services of the Data Centres.
  • Ensuring the maintenance of accurate plant records, information and reporting systems.
  • Ensuring all services are delivered to the highest technical standards, minimising risk.

Required experience

  • Experience through a working knowledge and understanding of engineering or building services operations within Mission-Critical Environments
  • Great attention to detail
  • A flexible but non-comprising approach to service delivery
  • Ability to discuss and understand technical problems and resolutions with engineering specialists.
  • Technical appreciation of electrical, mechanical and/or cooling disciplines such as:  transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS/STS units, PDU units, air handling units, cooling towers.

Essential qualifications relevant to the role:

  •       17th or 18th Edition certified (or comparable) electrical qualification, ideally electrical test & inspection
  • NVQ Level 1/2 or equivalent (including recognised apprenticeship) with either an electrical, mechanical or building services bias
