Electrical Engineer

About the Role
Gyron is a rapidly growing part of NTT, the world’s largest telecommunications service provider, and provides highly resilient and energy efficient data centre services, supporting business critical IT applications for customers such as Adobe, Salesforce, Sky, Sony, Spotify and IBM, from five state-of-the-art data centre facilities in the South East of England.

As one of Gyron’s LV APs you will provide electrical engineering services on all of our electrical systems and ensure correct operation within the facility’s specifications. Day to day tasks will include the writing, review and approval of LV switching schedules and RAMS. You will ensure that all best practices and standards are delivered. Working alongside the Critical Facilities Management Department you will assist with smooth running of Gyron’s datacentre estate and ensure that any infrastructure issues are quickly resolved to prevent any impact to our customers.
You will assist the Electrical Engineering Manager with the engineering, management, delivery and commissioning of G59 projects and will assist the CFM Team with the smooth running of generation for Demand Side Response (DSR) across the Company’s data centre estate.

Specifically, you will:

  • Have LVAP status and be counter-signature of safety documents where required for FM and Project team
  • Review and sign-off critical switching and complex RAMS for electrical work 
  • Carry out LV Switching
  • Liaise with contractors, Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) and the National Grid on demand response projects.
  • Provide regular status updates and project reviews to Electrical Engineering Manager and SMT
  • Attend site meetings and surveys with contractors and nominated sub-contractors
  • Review, comment on and approve Risk Assessments and Method Statements for Electrical works
  • Draft accurate switching schedules for LV electrical works on critical infrastructure and issue/cancel electrical safety documents under Gyron's Electrical Safety Rules.
  • Supervise contractor’s electrical works under Gyron’s electrical safe systems of work (when necessary)
  • Check the quality of work carried out by contractors for electrical projects and escalate issues. 
  • Review, comment on contractors and nominated sub-contractor design documentation.
  • Arrange site access and manage permission to work processes for principle contractors and nominated sub-contractors in accordance with company procedures
  • Coordinate and assist with factory acceptance testing, commissioning, site acceptance testing and integrated systems testing.
  • Liaise with Critical Facility Management department and monitor the performance of Generator/UPS/Export Management Systems during the TRIAD season and other export conditions and escalate any issues.
  • Assist in on-going snagging activities during construction, assist in hand-over to Facilities Maintenance team
  • Collate and check handover documentation
  • Provide 2nd level escalation for electrical issues
  • Undertake training to develop your capability.
  • Provide guidance and assistance for junior team members
  • Any other duties relevant to the position and running of the company

 

Required Experience:

  • LVAP Certification (AP12 or equivalent)
  • 17th Edition certified or similar electrical qualification
  • HND or similar in relevant area (Electrical, Building Services)
  • Ideally industry or manufacturer training in generator controls, UPS systems, AC and DC power & switchgear
  • IOSH – Working Safely

 

About you:
To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Experience in electrical and control systems is required with excellent attention to detail
  • Good understanding of data centre power systems and building services generally
  • Significant experience in dealing with contractors and sub-contractors
  • Experience in LV switching
  • Good numerical and literacy skills and high levels of computer literacy
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise
  • Good analytical/ problem solving skills
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels with good relationship building skills
  • Self-motivated and keen to develop, with a willingness and desire to learn
  • Keen to share knowledge with colleagues
  • To possess initiative with an inquisitive nature, unafraid to ask appropriate questions
  • To possess a clean full UK driving licence
  • To undergo full security checks to BS7858:2012
