Network Manager

About the Role:


Gyron is a rapidly growing part of NTT, the world’s largest telecommunications service provider, and provides highly resilient and energy efficient datacentre services, supporting business critical IT applications for some of the world’s biggest and most innovative Cloud Hosting and SaaS Service providers, from five state-of-the-art datacentre facilities in the South East of England.

Reporting to the Head of Networks and Infrastructure, you will lead the day to day running of Gyron’s network and systems, whilst overseeing the department budget. The network team works closely with the IT/Infrastructure team who look after our internal customers. 

Specifically you will:

      Look after the installation, documentation and maintenance of Gyron network and server infrastructure including:

  •       Linux servers (Postfix, NGINX, ISC BIND, PowerDNS, ISC DHCP)
  •       VMWare/Cloud Infrastructure (including Hypervisors, SANs, iSCSI, Docker) 
  •       DWDM Network (MRV/ADVA ROADM)
  •       Layer3 IP Network (Juniper MX)
  •       Layer 2 Network (Juniper Core Switches & Firewalls, HP/Aruba Switches)
  •       Monitoring systems (eg. Nagios/Opsview/Cacti)
  •       Customer facing systems (Web Servers/Request Tracker/Customer Portal)
  •       The Gyron phone system (VoIP - Asterisk/Cisco/Polycom/Digium/Grandstream/2N) 
  •       Working for customers and carriers to provision connectivity
  •       Be a point of contact and escalation for other members of the department for more complex technical or network issues
  •       Be a point of contact for contractors working for, or on behalf of Gyron
  •       Ideally have some basic knowledge of scripting/programming (PHP, HTML, Java, C#)
  •       Have some knowledge of systems automation (e.g. Ansible/Chef/Puppet)
  •       Work with 3rd party connectivity providers and the FM department for cable/equipment installation
  •       Conduct/lead project work for internal & customer projects (cctv, access control, PCs, multimedia/av)

Desirable skills:

Can display some knowledge of at least 2 of the following:

  •       Routing - JunOS/eBGP/iBGP/OSPF/CIDR/VRRP/IPv6
  •       Switching - VLANS/LACP/PoE/STP/RSTP/MSTP
  •       Servers – Windows/Centos/Ubuntu
  •       General – DHS/DHCP/SMTP/SSH

In time, subject to performance and training participate in an on-call rota providing out of hours coverage for critical systems

About You:

  •       An ability to both work in a team, and be self-motivating and to work autonomously
  •       Excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to write clear documentation
  •       Keenness to develop new technical skills and an interest in the development of internet technology
  •       An in-depth understanding of the OSI networking model, switching, and routing
  •       Ability to follow support procedures, accurately prioritise support tickets, and escalation paths
  •       Ability to handle multiple support tickets in a professional manner
  •       Analysis skills to accurately interpret conversations into support tickets
  •       Familiarity with network monitoring tools and protocols
  •       To be motivated and possess a ‘can-do’ attitude
  •       Flexible and not afraid of occasionally getting “hands dirty” with some of the more hands on tasks involved with building and running datacentres 
  •       Own means of transport to site
  •       Driving License valid for use in the UK 
  •       Be UK Based - we cannot accomodate a remote worker for this role 
  •       You must be willing to undergo full security checks to BS7858.2012
