(Graduate/Recently Qualified) Mechanical Engineer

About the role:

 As part of our continued growth, Gyron, one of the UK's leading retail co-location providers and owned by NTT, is expanding its Technical Department. We are looking for an energetic and ambitious Mechanical Engineer who is fully qualified and has some early experience of mechanical engineering and who wishes to develop within the Data Centre environment. This will include Critical Facilities Maintenance support, design, construction and management.

Working within the Mechanical Engineering Team this role provides support, expertise and preventative maintenance suggestions of power generators, chilled water and HVAC systems amongst others, to the business to ensure the successful and efficient operation of Gyron’s Data Centre estate. 

The position will provide a platform for progression into other technical/commercial roles such as Electrical Engineering, Critical Engineering, Facilities Management & Maintenance Support, Project Design & Management and Account Management roles.


Specifically, you will:

  • Provide day to day technical support to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, Operational teams and Critical FM in general.
  • Learn and support fault finding on Control Systems (e.g. Trend, Carel, Tridium etc.).
  • Navigate and interrogate Programmable Logic Controllers and Building Management Systems (PLC & BMS).
  • Provide technical support and witnessing to commissioning activities to ensure that newly installed infrastructure meets the bespoke design intent.
  • Identify non-compliance areas/faulty equipment and take corrective actions to address these within required timescales.
  • Contribute to technical specifications that capture key design requirements and protect Gyron's interests.
  • Complete product comparison/selection reviews and recommend new approaches/suppliers focusing on technical specification and how they can be used for Tender.
  • Assist the Account Management team by providing technical information and both supporting and attending technical presentations and workshops with clients.
  • Analyse supplier technical submittals, drawings and reports for operational impact.
  • Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT’s) for new equipment, which may include travelling outside of the UK on some occasions.
  • Assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOP’s).
  • Assist with the process of verifying and compiling all Operation and Maintenance Documents (O&M manuals including up-to-date descriptions, manufacturers literature, drawings etc.).


Candidate pre-requisites:

  • An Engineering Based Hons Degree (BEng/MEng/BSc), HNC/HND or a recognised apprenticeship and/or training scheme.
  • Knowledge of Data Centre Cooling; specifically including closed and open water-cooling systems, cooling towers, refrigeration systems etc.
  • Microsoft Office proficient.

  • Undergo full security checks to BS7858:2012.
